"The story of a long tradition"
As we celebrate the remarkable career of Charlie Olson the beloved custodian of Sunnyvale's Heritage Orchard, we celebrate not just his retirement but a legacy that has flourished since 1977. A third-generation farmer, Charlie has nurtured the 10-acre apricot orchard with a dedication that has become the stuff of local legends. As he steps into this well-earned chapter of retirement, he leaves behind not only rows of fruitful trees, but also the assurance that the orchard’s future remains in trusted hands with Elisabeth Maurer, his dedicated partner of more than three decades, who will continue the work they have so carefully cultivated together.
With deep appreciation and respect for Charlie’s legacy, Elisabeth is poised to carry on the tradition of excellence in managing the apricot and cherry orchards. In addition to overseeing the orchards, Elisabeth operates the charming apricot store inside the historic orchard barn, where visitors can savor the sweetness of fresh Blenheim apricots and Bing cherries during the summer, along with an array of delightful selection of dried fruits and handcrafted confections throughout the year. With her unwavering dedication and commitment, Elisabeth is ready to embrace this significant responsibility, ensuring that the orchards remain a vibrant and treasured part of our community for years to come.
Charlie Olson would like to extend his heartfelt thanks for your loyal support of our fruit business over so many years. It has truly been a joy to grow and share our sweet Blenheim apricots and cherries with you season after season. Your support and friendships have meant more than words can express.
"As I step into retirement, it is my sincere hope that you will continue supporting the orchard in the years ahead. Nothing would make me happier than to see the orchard continue to flourish and provide fresh fruit to this wonderful community for many seasons to come."

Beginning April 14th, a new chapter will unfold at the orchard as Elisabeth Maurer takes over the responsibility of leading the farm following Charlie Olson’s well-deserved retirement.
For 35 years, Elisabeth has worked side by side with Charlie, gaining the knowledge of the land, the trees, and the traditions that define the orchard. Her commitment, dedication, and love for agriculture have long been part of the farm’s daily life. Now, she steps into this role with a strong sense of responsibility, gratitude, and joy, determined to continue the orchard in the same spirit that Charlie upheld for decades.
While honoring tradition, Elisabeth will also introduce thoughtful updates for the future. A new logo will reflect the orchard’s enduring heritage, the Barn will be refreshed with a welcoming touch, and a new website will provide updated information and share the story of the farm with a new generation of visitors. These changes are designed not to replace the past, but to carry it forward with care and purpose.
As Charlie enters his retirement after a lifetime devoted to the orchards, he does so knowing the land remains in trusted hands. Under Elisabeth’s guidance, the last remaining orchard in Sunnyvale will continue to thrive, sustained by hard work, respect for nature, and the same heartfelt dedication that has defined it for generations.
With deep roots in the community and a profound appreciation for the apricot trees that have shaped Sunnyvale’s landscape for over a century, Elisabeth is committed to preserving every acre with care and passion. The orchard remains not only a place of farming, but a living piece of local history, nurtured with love, joy, and unwavering dedication to the land.
